Hello,
just stumbled across your SX1IS blog. I have to say that Canon really stuffed it up with these cameras. I got the SX1IS on my b'day, not too long ago, and I'm just fed up with the limitations it has. I don't mind the fact that it doesn't let you put on filters, but that the manual mode isn't really MANUAL at all.
What were they thinking??? I've been going crazy.. this camera is so freaking expensive, even my smaller Canon Powershot A710 (3 years old) can produce images that the SX1IS cannot.
THANK GOD FOR CHDK.. if only I could get it working >:O

Chill dude. The SX1 is great for what it is... a fun jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none toy.
If you wanted a manual camera, you should have bought a DSLR you muppet.
FWFW, I bought my SX1 in Hong Kong for US$350 new over a year ago.
I'm looking to buy my third DSRL in that time, and the SX1 stays. Primarily for HD video of the kids, but that zoom is also lots of fun.
